White and White
Brother and sister artist duo, White & White, work together in creating environment inspired sculptures that take us to imaginary worlds where humans and lakes, waterfalls and forests intertwine; resulting in highly figurative yet magical works of art.
Growing up amidst an abundance of nature and fertile ground has been this artist duo’s main source of inspiration. At its core, their creative process is guided by a keen awareness of the beauty of nature, but also by the fragility of its ecosystems.
Water is the source of all life and water is in peril. In their recent work, White and White explore the relationship between human beings and the environment as they observe this constantly weakening relationship. At the same time, people continually express their eternal fascination with the aquatic element. In their most recent series, “Alter Ego”, they strive to make visible the symbiotic relationship between water and life: the materia prima.
Above all, their sculptures are not intended for passive observation. They are topics for reflection and are meant to be interactive, making use of the formal features of both realism and metaphor, encouraging viewers to participate in a dynamic enquiry into, and ultimately, a fully creative exchange with their own lives. |
